When you’re experiencing hearing loss, the right technology can make a meaningful difference in staying connected to your daily life.
We understand that clear communication, whether you’re on a phone call, watching your favorite show or having dinner with friends, should not feel like a constant struggle. At Hearing Aids By Tricia Leagjeld, our hearing professionals help you explore all the technology options available to support your hearing needs.
Assistive listening devices (ALDs) offer practical support for specific situations where you need extra help. These devices bring sound directly to you while reducing background noise that can interfere with conversation and comprehension. We will work with you to find the right assistive listening devices to improve your day-to-day experiences, so you can focus on what matters.
Auracastâ„¢
Auracastâ„¢ is a new type of Bluetooth designed for shared spaces, and it works by allowing one audio source to broadcast to many listeners at the same time instead of connecting privately from one device to another.
This technology turns everyday places into smart listening environments, like restaurants broadcasting TV audio directly to your hearing aids or earbuds, airports sending gate announcements straight to your devices or movie theaters offering audio in different languages based on your preference.
How Does Auracast Work?
When a venue sets up an Auracast transmitter, it creates an audio hotspot that your devices can detect. Your Auracast-compatible hearing aids or earbuds scan for available broadcasts, showing you a list of options. You simply select the broadcast you want and control the volume through your device.
The system uses Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio technology optimized for public spaces, providing improved sound quality compared to older Bluetooth connections. It typically works within a range just over 300 feet from the transmitter, making it practical for most indoor venues and smaller outdoor settings. Multiple listeners can connect simultaneously without reducing sound quality.
Benefits of Auracast
For hearing aid wearers, Auracast adds new functionality to devices you already own:
- Direct audio reception: Receive announcements, TV audio and presentations directly through your hearing aids.
- Personalized volume control: Adjust sound levels to your specific hearing needs regardless of the venue’s projected volume.
- Battery efficiency: Uses less power than continuously streaming from a personal device.
- Multiple language options: Select your preferred language for broadcasts where available.
Auracast makes it easier to hear clearly in shared spaces by sending audio straight to your devices, giving you more control in everyday environments.
CaptionCall Captioned Telephones
Phone conversations can be especially difficult for people with hearing loss. Background noise, unclear voices and the lack of visual cues like lip reading can cause frustration. CaptionCall telephones provides a solution that helps you follow conversations more easily and feel more confident every time you pick up the phone.
How CaptionCall Works
CaptionCall works by turning spoken words into clear, real-time captions that appear on a large, easy-to-read screen while you talk on the phone. The device functions like a standard telephone, so you can make and receive calls the way you normally would while following along with the written text to catch every detail.
CaptionCall also includes high-quality sound and adjustable audio settings, allowing you to tailor the volume and tone to match your hearing needs for a more comfortable calling experience.
CaptionCall Mobile
CaptionCall Mobile brings the same captioning technology to your iPad, enabling you to make and receive captioned telephone calls wherever you go. The app is available in the Apple App Store and requires a CaptionCall account and an iPad 2 or later.
